A former Red Deer College student returns to campus tomorrow (March 8th) to help give students and the community some tips on how to land that dream job.

Shelia Musgrove owns TAG recruitment group in Calgary, where she's been helping employers since 2005 hire the best and most qualified candidates and she's an author of a book on how to get hired.

Musgrove says first and foremost there are some do's and don'ts when it comes to your resume.

“How to write resumes that get your phone ringing and hint it’s not a long list of bullets, everybody fills their resume with those dreaded long lists of bullets and they don’t make your phone ring.  So I share the formula on resume writing that does get your phone ringing for interviews”.

Musgrove says 80% of resumes are rejected within 11 seconds, so that's all the time you get for your resume to stand out.

She will also share some tips on how to prepare for a job interview, including some simple tricks to help you make a great impression.

“At the end of the interview when it’s all over, what are the clever questions to ask and what questions never to ask and some of those questions are, what are the salaries, what are the benefits, how many weeks’ vacation, when can I take vacation, how many sick days, you get the idea, they are all about you.  I’m going to teach what are some really clever end of interview questions to ask that will also make the candidate be a stand out”.

Musgrove says you have 7 seconds to make that great impression, so dressing sharp is also important.

Citing a stat from totaljobs.com, Musgrove says 40% of post-secondary students are still searching for work 6 months post-graduation, and she wants to help change that.

Tomorrow’s session runs from 2-3pm at Margaret Parsons Theatre on RDC’s main campus, for more information visit RDC Facebook Event Page.
