From Airdrie RCMP:

Ten criminal charges have been laid against a 35-year-old male from Central Alberta after a dangerous semi tractor trailer pursuit that ended in Airdrie this past weekend.

On Friday, March 23, 2018 at approximately 9:45 pm, Airdrie RCMP were alerted to a semi tractor trailer that was failing to stop for Police. The semi was travelling southbound on Highway #2 from the Didsbury area and was a concern for public safety due to the manner in which it was being driven.

Earlier in the night, the semi was stolen from Red Deer and then used to smash into parked vehicles. The semi continued to be driven dangerously and Police tried to stop it with the use of a spike belt but, the semi was able to continue moving with damaged tires.

The semi travelled south from Red Deer down Highway #2, eventually turning off onto Highway #2A and through Crossfield. The semi then continued into Airdrie and turned off into the city. The semi’s front tire was completely destroyed yet, the vehicle continued to move.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) as well as the Calgary Police Service HAWCS helicopter and Calgary Police Service TAC were deployed to assist. A joint tactical intervention by RCMP ERT and CPS TAC was used to stop the semi tractor trailer on 40 Avenue in Airdrie. The semi came to a stop quickly and no one was injured.
