Mounties in both Olds and Innisfail are dealing with a rash of property related crimes around Bowden, in the rural areas both east and west, and north towards Innisfail.

Rural farm yards are being targeted, with Officers dealing with a spike in calls relating to thefts of vehicles and quads.

Olds RCMP Corporal Michael Black says thieves may be eyeing the area as it falls between two policing jurisdictions “it’s definitely a possibility and being so close to Highway 2 it’s an easy get away, as soon as they jump on the highway then access into Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary is pretty quick”.

Black says they have identified a group responsible for these crimes, and they've made a few arrests, one as recent as Wednesday with the accused from Red Deer.

He does encourage people to lock their homes and outbuildings as well as vehicles, keep outside and yard lights on, and to not leave valuables visible.
