Student leadership opportunities, career development and student mental health and wellness services at Red Deer College took a step forward today (Oct.13).

The Royal Bank of Canada Foundation committed $450,000 over five years to RDC, ensuring students exceptional academic programming and access to additional career development and wellness initiatives.

Benefiting from the donation is the RBC Student Ambassador program, a leadership group of students committed to strengthening the student experience through volunteering and mentorship.

First year Business Administration student and ambassador Charity Lehn said the donation will go a long way.

“It’s going to provide programs to students at both here and the Donald School of Business for students to be able to work on their skills and have access to mental health initiatives which is very important.”

“It’s going to make their college experience better, and like they (RBC) said, it’s really an investment in the experience of college students and giving back.”

President of RDC Joel Ward can’t say enough about the partnership they have with RBC.

“We’ve been working with them for a number of years and this is another example of their commitment to the communities in which they serve and post-secondary education.”

“A $450,000 donation is going to make a significant difference in our ability to support student issues particularly in mental health and wellness.”

The funds will also be used to enhance direct support for mental health, including a new 24/7 access online platform.
