Alberta Premier Jason Kenney gave an update on vaccine rollout this morning. Now, Phase 2B has been fully opened to Albertans born in 2005 and earlier with severe health conditions.

Phase 2C has opened this morning for several health care workers.

There are now over 1,300 pharmacies and 103 clinics able to distribute approximately 300,000 vaccine doses a week.

“Our stretch goal is to administer more than 500,000 a week but all of this will depend on how many people come forward to get vaccinated. Particularly we are concerned about potential uptake on AstraZeneca,” said Kenney.

More vaccine doses are still expected to arrive in the province in the coming weeks.

“We expect to receive more than 119,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine every week until early June when this should jump to more than 225,000 a week. We will also receive more shipments of Moderna vaccine and hope to get the first shipment of Johnson & Johnson vaccine by early May though were still waiting for a specific day from the federal government,” explained Kenney.

He noted that the benefit of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is that it is a single dose vaccine.

Starting today, some pharmacies will be offering walk-in bookings for eligible Albertans aged 55 to 64.
