Power is back on in Vanier Woods, Normandeau and Glendale as well as many businesses in Riverside Light Industrial area in Red Deer.

The City of Red Deer is tipping it's hat this morning (June 23rd) to Electric Light and Power crews who again worked through the night to turn the lights on at another approximately 200 homes.

It still leaves about 200 homes scattered around the City still waiting for power to be restored, where crews will now be shifting their full attention.

City of Edmonton crews are joining forces with city staff today, sending two bucket trucks with chippers as well as five staff.

These staff will focus on assessing the park system and dealing with the large volume of downed trees across the city.

The City reminds Vanier that today is garbage collection day, so if you have a fridge or freezer full of spoiled food or other debris you need to clean-out you can toss what you need to, with garbage bag limits waived.

The snow storage site at Edgar Industrial will remain open to collect fallen branches and trees until July 3.

Residents can also bring green branches to the City’s Waste Management Facility at no cost.

In addition to regular hours, the Waste Management Facility will open this Sunday, June 25 and next Sunday, July 2 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to accept resident waste from the storm.

A total of 40 power poles were damaged or needed to be replaced before power could be restored following Tuesday (June 20th) nights storm.

In the immediate aftermath of the storm, about 12,000 properties were without power.
