The Town of Ponoka is doing their annual 'Kick it to the Curb' event and fall clean-up all in the same week this year.

Starting Monday, October 12th, 2020, Ponoka residents can place any unwanted, gently used and sanitized items on their front yard with a 'Free' sign next to it for anyone to come and take. Residents are asked to bring any items not picked up back inside by the end of the week, where they're encouraged to either donate the items or throw them away.

'Shoppers' are asked to respect the person's property, and avoid walking on their lawn, into their gardens, or into the person's back yard. You're also encouraged to sanitize the items before bringing them into your home.

Fall Clean-Up

Starting on Tuesday, October 13th, 2020, Ponoka will start their annual fall clean-up of compostable yard waste.

Make sure you have your yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, weeds and branches less than five feet) out in the back alley by October 12th, as public works crews will be making a single pass of all the alleys to pick up yard waste that's in excess of what will fit into the resident green cart.

Residents without back alleys can place their items in the front of their property in a visible location. If you also have items out for 'Kick it to the Curb', make sure you separate and clearly identify them.

Please Do Not Place Material in Bags

Yard waste set out for collection should not be bagged, as bagged material will not be picked up to avoid contaminating the compost pile at the Town’s Waste Transfer Station.

Other items that will not be picked up include: rocks, construction material, wood, household waste and pet excrement.

Ponoka residents are also welcome to bring unbagged, compostable yard waste free of charge to the Town of Ponoka Waste Transfer Station. The Waste Transfer Station only accepts compostable yard waste such as tree branches, leaves and grass clippings – not kitchen waste.

Kitchen waste can only be composted through the curbside Green Cart program and is not accepted at the Waste Transfer Station as the facility is not set up to compost that type of material.

You can click here to go to the Town of Ponoka's website for a full list of what can be composted curbside in their Green carts.
