Members of the Mirror Community Network have been advocating for a fenced-in, permanent off-leash dog park in their community for some time now, and that wish is finally coming true.

At their most recent meeting, Lacombe County Council approved the construction and operation of the dog park which will be located in an underutilized area next to the Living Truth Christian School in Mirror.

Communications Coordinator for Lacombe County Nicole Plewis says this was all because of the hard work of the Mirror Community Network.

"It was initiated by the Mirror Community Network around 2017, they asked if they could use an underutilized ball diamond in Mirror for an off-leash park. So they've been using that now for several years and they wanted to come to us to look for a more permanent solution and location for this park... they spoke with administration and came up with two possible locations, and then have asked the County just to help with them moving the services over there."

She says members of the Mirror Community Network have been working on this project for a number of years now.

"They really have done a lot of fundraising and a lot of the pre-work on this. So that really was helpful for us in making a decision because they've really taken ownership of this project for their community."

The dog park will be in an underutilized area located next to the Mirror Christian School.

Lacombe County will be busy with installation and maintenance once all the snow is gone, and they are planning to have it available for public use by this summer.

Plewis says this park was a joint venture between the County, the community network and local dog walkers.
