Penhold continues to make strides when it comes to adding more recreational options for residents and visitors alike.

They're hoping to continue to build on that momentum as they reach out to the community with a survey, looking to better guage recreational needs moving forward and gain a better understanding of what future programs and activities families would like to see.

Mayor Dennis Cooper says they are working to address one current gap in the community when it comes to activities for young kids.

“We have playgrounds, but we don’t have playgrounds for ages 2 through 5. There is a group right now that’s working on building a playground for ages 2 through 5 and also one that supports any children in wheelchairs. We’ve given them land for that, they’re in the process of doing some fundraising and getting some grants, but that’s just another area where hopefully we can work on”.

Cooper says some residents have also expressed interest in enhancing their small BMX track, and the Optimist Club continues to fundraise for a skatepark.

Construction is also starting soon on a new RV park to serve both the community and visitors according to Cooper.

“We’re going to be turning the dirt for our RV park which is going to be right beside the multiplex within the next couple of weeks. There will be 64 fully serviced lots, it’s going to be right beside the multiplex so events can be planned there and it gives people other options to stay right in the local area when they come to an event”.

Cooper says the Town knows more walking paths are a priority for the community, and he says plans are in the works for two more baseball diamonds, and they just recently added two new soccer pitches.
