A driver suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after Penhold Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 2A at Hawkridge Boulevard on Friday night.

The crash occurred at about 10:20 p.m.

According to Penhold Fire Captain Elisabeth Crowson, "a vehicle hit a wooden post and a street light head on. Penhold fire fighters extricated the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, who was transported by EMS to hospital in Innisfail with serious but non-life threatening injuries."

Highway 2A was closed in both directions, as well as Hawkridge Boulevard westbound, until midnight.

Fortis Alberta was called to check the condition of the light pole.

The crash is being investigated by RCMP.
