More exciting news out of the Town of Penhold, as they have applied for a grant application for a regional transportation pilot project, similar to BOLT transit system in Lacombe.

Mayor Michael Yargeau says this will help people get to where they need to go in our region, regardless of location.

“We have the city of Red Deer transit working with us too, to provide regular transit opportunities, starting in Innisfail, to Penhold, to Springbrook, to Red Deer and back. So that’s pretty exciting for people in these smaller communities who are looking for that transportation to Red Deer who may not have vehicles.”

He says nothing is set in stone yet as they wait approval, but this would be a great boost for residents who don't have reliable transport.

”It’s a pilot project so all we are at right now, is we sent the grant application in, and the town has officially signed on and supported that. Nothing major to announce yet, we haven’t got it, but we do know that there is not very many applicants in this region, so I do feel we have really good odds of getting this.”

If approved, the project would be funded for the next two years.

This comes on the heels of the province allowing Penhold to annex 8 quarter sections of land, doubling the size of the community.
