The Town of Blackfalds will be temporarily shutting down Broadway Avenue north from Aspen Lakes Boulevard to slightly south of Township Road 40-0 due to spring freeze and thaw conditions. The town has decided to close the road in order to prevent unnecessary road degradation.

The closure is set to begin on March 22 until April 12 weather permitting.

“During the spring freeze-thaw cycle, our Public Works department is limited in options to repair major rutting in this roadway,” said  Infrastructure Services Manager, Laura Thevenaz. She adds. “To preserve the structural integrity of the road, and for the safety of its users, the Town has chosen to temporarily close this section of Broadway Avenue.”

It is advised that motorists who usually use that area for travel make use of Highway 2A for now. Access will be given to residents who live in that area.

If you see unsafe conditions on the road, you are encouraged to contact the town.
