Sylvan Lake is set to get an upgraded sports park since Town Council has approved a conceptual design for Pogadl Park. This is a long term plan that may take years but they are moving forward to the project plan for phase one.

Council members say their priority for the plan includes campgrounds, ball diamonds, soccer fields, washrooms, and a parking lot.

Joanne Gaudet, communications officer for the town says this part of the plan was very basic.

“A general overview of how that site can be designed in the future, the types of amenities and location, based on our current needs.”

The current recreation and sports field, Four Seasons Park, was constructed in the mid-1980s and the park and is now becoming a safety concern.

“There’s not a lot of room to grow in that space and there’s not a lot of updates we can do given the location so we’ve kind of long identified the need for a sports park.”

Gaudet says the Design Concept for Pogadl Park may change over time since it may take many years.

“It is a conceptual design, so this may change over time as we identify new opportunities and challenges as well as accept feedback from the public.”

The next step is to provide the Town Council with a project plan for the first phase of construction, which is funded through the 2019 Capital Budget.

This was all possible thanks to a donation back in 2016 from the Pogadl family.

They generously donated 20 acres of land to the town, and in conjunction, the town purchased an additional 54 acres and received six as a Municipal Reserve contribution.
