From Penhold RCMP:

On December 16, 2018, at approximately 11 pm Innisfail RCMP, while on routine patrol in the town of Penhold Alberta noted a vehicle idling outside the Penholder Tavern.  

Police conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle and noted the license plate on the vehicle was in fact registered to a different vehicle.  

When police approached the lone male driver became agitated, yelling at police to shut their lights off and rolled his windows up and locked his doors. 

Police continued to interact with the driver however he reversed his vehicle into the front of the fully marked police vehicle that was parked behind him, causing damage.  

Police attempted to arrest the man and an altercation took place that resulted in a police officer being dragged approximately 15 feet.

The police officer sustained minor injuries as a result of this altercation.  

The vehicle fled the scene.

Red Deer City RCMP located the vehicle in Red Deer and both Innisfail detachment, as well as Red Deer City detachment, continued to investigate, located the male and arrested him without further incident.

24-year-old Chasetin MORIN of Red Deer has been charged with:

  • Assault of a police officer with a weapon X2
  • Resist Arrest
  • Breach Recognizance X2
  • Fail to Stop for a police officer
  • Possess property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Drive uninsured motor vehicle
  • Fail to remain at the scene of a collision
  • Drive unauthorized
  • Drive unreasonable speed
  • Fail to stop at a stop sign

MORIN has been remanded to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on December 18, 201,8 at 9:30.
