A new solar design and installation branch was launched at Red Deer College last night (Jan. 18th)

Newo (NA-WOA) comes from the Cree word for 4, which represents the 4 elements of earth, water, fire, and wind, and the object of Newo Global Energy is to help preserve those things, as well as trying to create a new way to look at consuming energy.

Launched in Camrose less than a year ago, and specializing in solar panels, part of the vision for Newo Global Energy, is to combine an indigenous perspective and Western perspective on how to run a company. President Raj Rathnavalu explains.

“From a western perspective we understand very well industrial enterprise, and we are very good at doing that. And the indigenous world view takes into account deeper spiritual connections that underlie those relationships.”

Newo is a not for profit company that hopes to help rework the energy grid, by getting people more connected to solar energy, and is now available in Red Deer.

Rathnavalu says unlike most energy companies, they are registered as a not for profit, and focus more on improving our society as a whole rather than simply focusing on profits.

“Imbedded in our company DNA is this notion that whatever excess profits we make will directly back into the community. Through education programs, through helping those who need hand through, all sorts of other endeavours that may not be directly related with company operations but are beneficial to those around us.”

Newo Global Energy focuses on helping people utilize the sun as a renewable sources of energy, and they hope to eventually expand to more renewable energy sources in the future.
