For those of you getting married here in Central Alberta but have been unable to find a proper venue for your special day, you’ll soon have another option, the Arrow and Oar Venues, located on the east side of Sylvan Lake.

Development on a barn like structure which will double as a place for wedding ceremonies and a photography studio was approved yesterday (Thursday, September 14th) by County Council.

Owner of Arrow and Oar Venues and Arrow and Oar Photography Shannon Morrill says it's been a vision of hers to have a building customized for weddings.

“It’s been a dream of probably 8 years, so it’s awesome to finally put it into play. It’s really exciting.”

She says she wanted to offer a place where she could provide a wedding ceremony, and take all their photos in one scenic and convenient location.

“I want to be able to offer packages for that, and just have control of lighting, and build grounds that are conducive to weddings. Like, a scenic place. Sylvan doesn’t really have anything to offer for that.”

The land, which is located adjacent to Kayton Estates, can hold up to 150 people, and will not be used for receptions.

They also operate a Christmas Tree Farm that won't be mature for a few years, but cutting your Christmas tree will be offered as a photography package with your yearly Christmas card photo.

The hours of operation will be Friday from 5-8pm, and Saturday from 8:30am until 4pm.

The idea was met with no opposition from the county or area residents so far, but they still have 19 days to put forth any complaints they may have.
