A few more names were added to the plaque outside Lincoln Park, and a few more trees planted in Birthplace Forest in Lacombe last night.

This is the 10th year of the program that commemorates the births of the newest members of our communities, by planting trees in their honour.

Mayor Steve Christie says after the storm that blew through a few weeks ago, this projects importance is really spotlighted.

"We see when these big storms roll through that some of the older trees get blown over, when they do get old they fall down and they die. So we have to replace them, so this is just one of our programs in our Urban Forestation Program, to do just that."

Christie says it's also a great way for the youth to plant some roots and become connected with the community..... No pun intended.

"It's something that connects them to Lacombe, it's something that brings them back to their birthplace if they don't stay here. They can then bring their children back to see their tree, and show their wives or husbands, that they have a tree still growing in Lacombe."

Any parent or grandparent can register their newborn for the program, which not only plants trees each year, but also gets their names etched in a plaque just outside the park.
