Julia Boser, co-owner of Healthfitters Lacombe says this has been a very busy start to the month for them. New Year resolutions are in full swing and everyone is trying to work off any holiday weight they may have gained or make healthier choices in general.

Boser says one problem some people face is purchasing equipment or supplements and not realizing it’s incorrect for their body. In an example, she says people that have arthritis may need a different routine than someone without it.

She says she is always offering advice to her clients and one thing she always recommends is how to limit the pain after an intense workout.

“People that are doing workouts they are going to end up with some sore stiff muscles, so I always recommend that they support their body with some magnesium because working out is inflammatory.”

It also will help you get better sleep after putting your body through the gains of a tough gym day.

“Magnesium is an anti-inflammatory, it’s also the mineral that helps with the relaxation of muscles.”

This year, she has noticed a trend in what people are adding to their everyday routines.

“There seems to be quite a bit of interest in gelatin and collagen, that has a lot to do with pain, inflation and even pure vanity, it does a lot for your hair skin and nails.”

Boser says you can use the powder to make jellies, add it to hot drinks, smoothies, or even cooking.

She also says to avoid losing interest in your new health routine, “perhaps work with somebody that can keep you accountable, I find that people do it with a group so there is accountability and it feels good to know you aren’t doing this alone.”

Adding, keeping small goals that will get you to your bigger goals, will keep your brain motivated throughout the rest of the year.
