A family with deep roots in the Gull Lake area is excited to welcome some new neighbours, and more young families to what they call a special part of Central Alberta, as construction starts on the first home in Wilson's Beach Estates.

The Doef's, known for their successful greenhouse operation, partnered with architect Kirk Miller to develop the new semi-rural residential community on the southeast edge of Gull Lake.

Eric Doef says it's a vision that's been a long time coming.

“I think it was 7-8 years ago we bought the land and we’ve been developing it. It’s in Lacombe County so we’ve had to follow the rules of the County and get all of the approvals in place, to protect Gull Lake, the watershed and we’re excited about getting all of the approvals finished and having lots for sale”.

The area is near and dear to their heart according to Doef.

“We all live in the area, I grew up in the area with my family, we know how special it is to raise a young family in this area so we’re excited to get the development approvals in for phase one and we’re excited about the reservations, it’s about one third reserve and the first house is under construction, I think the shingles are on the roof, so we’re underway”.

There are 27 lots available in the first phase of the 137 acre sub-division.

Wilson's Beach Estates includes an integrated trail system that connects neighbours, with 4 direct trails to Gull Lake and the new Anderson Park.

Lacombe County Councillor Ken Wigmore notes “they’ve invested a significant amount of time researching wastewater systems in order to protect the lake”, and there’s engineered wetlands for storm water, and more than 1,000 trees will be part of the landscape.

The developer’s stress it's not an RV community, it's for those who want a home with lake access.
