On Tuesday May 30 2017 at just before 1 pm, Penhold fire crews were called to a flower garden on fire on Harvest Cl in Penhold.

First arriving units found a large flower garden in the back yard adjacent to the house on fire.

Flames had spread to the outside of the house involving the vinyl siding and some electrical lines.

The fire was quickly knocked down and crews overhauled the garden removing all the framing (mostly fire damaged, the involved siding, and the peat moss was moved away from the house.

There were no injuries, and the occupants evacuated safely. Fortis Alberta assisted with identifying the electrical lines.

The cause was determined to be improperly discarded smoking materials, and the damage is estimated at $5000.00. 3 units and 10 fire fighters responded.

Penhold Fire Department Fire Chief Jim Pendergast would like to remind everyone to not discard smoking material in gardens or planters and to call 911 to report an emergency.
