This mild winter weather is great for getting outside, but it's causing a few setbacks for those looking to do some outdoor skating.

Parks and Facilities Manager with the City of Lacombe Calvin Bennefield says they're still working on opening up the outdoor rink behind the Sportsplex.

“With the nice weather  it’s hit our concrete base and started melting, so it’s still probably going to be hopefully maybe sometime next week, but it might be the week after.”

In terms of the ponds, Bennefield says they wait for 8 inches of ice so they can use a tractor to clear the surfaces, currently the ice is about 6 inches thick, but they hope to start work on the outdoor skating surface on Cranna Lake next week if conditions are good.
