With the municipal election coming up on Monday, October 18th, The Sylvan Lake Chamber of Commerce presented a candidate forum for the positions of Mayor and Council for The Town of Sylvan Lake.

Questions were submitted by the public and each candidate had one minute to address the query.

Based on the forum, Lacombe online news will be presenting a five-part series highlighting both Mayoral and Council candidates. (not present at the forum were Lani Roulilard, and Robbie Yates)

Running for Mayor are Megan Hanson and Ted Iverson.

Megan Hanson was elected to town council in 2013 and 2017. She feels that she can bring experienced leadership to the table in her run for Mayor. Hanson says she is a life-long leaner and has spent the last eight years as a student in her role on council.

“I’m always looking to learn from our neighbors and people that we are in contact with, including other municipalities to do better.”

Ted Iverson is a long time resident of Sylvan Lake and is running for the 12th time. His main issue is climate change.

“I believe we are in trouble, and we need to work on solutions especially at the municipal level to find sustainable things that we can do to help the environment.” When asked about traits that would make him a good mayor Iverson talked about his experience. “I’ve been the mayor previously for three terms, nine years, and also I was a councilman for three terms or nine years. I’ve seen a lot, I understand the system well, I have many connections, federal, provincial and with people in the community.”
