Members of the Red Deer RCMP Detachment and from the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit – South (MCU) are investigating the suspicious death of a woman this morning in the City of Red Deer.

Today, at approximately 6:13 a.m., Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of shots having been fired in the area of a townhouse complex located near the intersection 42 Street and 54 Avenue.

A short time later, police received a report of a pickup truck having collided with a power pole a short distance away.

At this time, police have secured the two locations for examination and investigation but cannot yet confirm whether the incidents are related.

Tomorrow, an autopsy is to be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary.

The name of the woman is not being released at this time given that the investigation is in its early stages.

The investigation is ongoing and is utilizing members from the Red Deer RCMP Detachment, MCU-South as well as the Forensic Identification Section (FIS).

Presently, police are processing the scenes and conducting interviews of witnesses.

New information will be provided to the media by way of updates when it becomes available.
