Big Brothers Big Sisters in Lacombe was presented with a $925 check this morning.

It was all part of the “Burger of the Month” at Cilantro and Chive, where each month the restaurant collaborates with a member of the community to create a burger.

For March, Mayor Steve Christie designed the “the Mayor’s Benny Burger, with $2 from every burger sold being donated to Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters Executive Director Crystal Zens said the donation couldn’t come at a better time especially after moving into their new home in November.

“We’ve done so much funding for the new house that our programs are lacking funding now so it will go directly to helping kids in our community.”

“It was a phenomenal advocacy and a great campaign and we were so excited to be a part of it.”

Christie got to choose which charity to support and said choosing Big Brothers Big Sisters was a no brainer.

“Big Brothers Big Sisters are one of my favorites. I’ve always said they’re the best ‘fly by your pantsers’ I’ve ever seen.”

“They’re not tough at all to support.”

Lacombe Fire Department is next to join the cause by creating the “SmokeShow” burger.

Proceeds are going towards the Legacy Place Society, which helps families of Peace Officers, Fire Fighters, Emergency Medical Services, 911 Dispatch and Military Professions.
