From Wetaskiwin RCMP:

Last night at 11:45 p.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to a pedestrian fatality on Highway 2A, south of Wetaskiwin.

A 32-year-old male was walking on Highway 2A when he was struck by a van travelling southbound on the highway.  

The male was determined to be deceased on scene.  

The driver of the van made an effort to avoid the collision, and this resulted in the van coming to rest in the northbound ditch.

The occupants of the van were not injured.

This incident remains under investigation.  

The name of the deceased male will not be provided by the RCMP.

Wetaskiwin Victim Services Unit has assisted the families involved in this investigation.  The RCMP are aware of the impact this tragedy has on all people involved and extends its condolences.
