People are just waking up to the aftermath of a massive wind storm that swept through parts of Central Alberta last night.

The City of Red Deer has declared a local state of emergency, which will allow them to access resources from other levels of government.

Waskasoo Park, as well as Great Chief Park and Bower Ponds will also be closed today as crews are cleaning up.

Early reports indicate as much as 20% of Red Deer may be currently experiencing power outages.

According to the Fortis Alberta website, about 40 people here in Lacombe may be experiencing power outages, mainly in the area north east of the Lacombe Golf and Country Club.

People out near Sylvan Lake appeared to get hit hard as well, as power is out for a few thousand people near Benalto and Eckville. Fortis hopes to have that power restored by the end of the day.

Residents of Rocky Mountain House are also seeing some power outages, although it doesn't look as bad as the Sylvan Lake and Red Deer area.

Power outages are also causing issues in Innisfail, Gull Lake, and a few spots between Lacombe and Ponoka along the QE2.

For people in Red Deer, to report downed trees, power outages, or any other issues relating to the storm, you can phone 403-342-8132.
