With the help of a local pet clinic, a pet food bank that serves Red Deer and area were able to get their face out into the community this weekend and spread their message.

Red Deer’s Alberta Lost Pet Locater Pet Food Bank Division spent Saturday afternoon at Lacombe Pet Clinic interacting with the public, while collecting donations to buy pet food.

The organization provides emergency food for hungry pets and ALPL’s Moira Williams says although they didn’t raise a significant amount of money; it was a great way to promote their organization.

“I didn’t think it was that big until I volunteered. I see the demand we need to feed these dogs, because a lot of people can’t afford it.”

Williams approached the clinic about a possible collaboration after seeing there was a second pet clinic opening in Lacombe, and can’t say enough about the Lacombe Pet Clinic team.

“They are very helpful in everything. They help the Old McDonald Farm, they’re helping C.A.R.E.S and they’re helping us. They really want to get involved with helping the community.”

The ALPL Pet Food Bank is run by a group of volunteers, with the Red Deer Division serving Sylvan Lake, Lacombe, Innisfail, Eckville, Rimbey and Bentley.

Lacombe Pet Clinic specializes in treating cats and dogs, but also offers medical care for reptiles, birds and small mammals like rabbits and hamsters.
