In celebration of Lions Club International’s 100th birthday, Lacombe’s Lions Club held their fountain dedication ceremony at Cranna Lake on Saturday.

With the sun shining, you couldn’t have asked for better weather, as dignitaries from around the area gathered at the lake to unveil the new plaque for the Lions Fountain.

In partnership with the City of Lacombe, the fountain was initially installed about a year ago, something Lacombe-Ponoka MLA Ron Orr said has been a great addition to the lake.

“I like the fact that they chose a fountain. Not only is the fountain beautiful and adds interest to the path around the lake, but the sound of falling water has a restorative and calming affect on people. I think it’s a great way to benefit the community.”

Lacombe Lions Club has been working on the project for the last three years and President Sharon Reiter said there was a lot or work that has gone into the project.

“Well we had to start out measuring the lake because we didn’t know if it was deep enough and then they had to run power, because there is no power that would work. They ran power across Woodland Drive and it worked out because of the crosswalk lights that are there now.”

Close to 100 residents showed to take part in the ceremony, something she’s says was just wonderful.

Lacombe Lions Club is in its 79th year and are looking forward for their 80th celebration next year.
