Students at Lindsay Thurber in Red Deer observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities last Friday with an art show depicting experiences of local people who live with disabilities.

One of the artists was Alisa Anderson, a Grade 10 student, tasked with telling the story of J.R. Bjornson, a former broadcaster turned YouTuber, who was born visually-impaired.

She painted a streetscape representing how hard it can be for Bjornson to navigate crosswalks without audible signals.

The Red Deer Inclusion and Accessibility Network partnered with the school’s art program to put on the display.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was first proclaimed by the United Nations on Dec. 3, 1992.
