Great news for central Alberta residents who have fond memories of the Lincoln Hall: Following an emergency membership meeting, the fate of the hall located on the east side of Gull Lake is no longer in jeopardy.

The meeting was held Monday night following the alarm being sounded by President of the Lincoln Hall Community Society Tony Kamlah, who was worried that if their membership didn't increase and their fundraisers weren't better attended, they would be forced to close the doors of the hall that's been open since the original building was constructed in 1927.

Kamlah was very pleased with the turnout last night.

"We had like, over 100 people show up. Got quite a few ideas and listened to stuff people had. Our membership went up to 125, instead of the 15 or whatever we were at before. So it was quite successful and people showed a lot of interest."

Kamlah says they created an email chain from the people in attendance to make it easier for everyone to stay connected.

They also hired someone to manage their social media account to help further promote events.

So for now, the doors of the Lincoln Hall will remain open.
