The Children’s Christmas market is an annual event is at the Saint Augustine School and is an opportunity to give kids the chance to surprise their families with gifts.

Vendors from all over come to the event which is Saturday, December 8 this year and price items at a reasonable rate for children to purchase.

But the kids don’t do this alone, 4H volunteers are there to help them shop and even wrap gifts. Parents are encouraged to let them do their shopping and relax while they wait.

Executive Manager for Ponoka Chamber of Commerce Heather Bendera says it’s a good chance for parents to breathe, especially during the Christmas stress.

“Were trying this year to get in some different groups to do crafts with the kids, so the kid will pay a couple bucks and they will do the craft with them and then they will take it home and wrap it up for mom and dad or grandma and grandpa.”

This year they seem to be struggling to find vendors, but encourage anyone who is interested to come forward. Bendera says it is a good chance to help a kid get their families something thoughtful for Christmas.

Not only that, but it is an opportunity for kids to learn the experience of shopping first hand, and for the parents to kick their feet up for a little while.

“They get to relax in the foyer and have a cinnamon bun, which are really, really good, and visit with other parents, they have Santa there for selfies with Santa.”
