Recognizing volunteers and groups that help to improve the quality of life for Alberta's older generation, the Minister's Seniors Service Awards is recognizing a Red Deer based company for all the good work they do for Alberta's older generation.

The Lending Cupboard Society of Alberta lends out medical equipment to those in need, and only charge a $10 processing fee.

Executive Director Dawna Morey was honored and humbled by this award.

“Proud, humbled, it really validates the incredible work that’s being done here by this agency by a part time staff of only 5 and over 11,000 hours of volunteerism, many of whom are seniors themselves. So an opportunity where seniors are giving back in their community by continuing to stay engaged.”

Morey says this award will help spread awareness about the good work they do, and the important role they fill in the health care community.

“It will speak to the value of the service that we have, and we hope that it is a message to Alberta Health and the government that a model like ours can be successful, and it’s actually filling a gap in health care services here in central Alberta.”

The Lending Cupboard was also honoured with a Premiers Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities Award last December.
