Developers of Last Hill Golf Course in Eckville are one step closer to starting construction on its reopening, with the addition of a Recreational Vehicle park.

Lacombe County Council approved the rezoning of the land from agricultural to recreational, which was required to add in the 100-unit RV campsite.

Owner and Developer of Last Hill Bill Maclean said it’s another item they can cross off the list.

“The next step will be to negotiate a development agreement between ourselves and the county and once we get that in place that allows us to actually start our construction.”

“So far, we have the kind of land we can do this on with the rezoning, but we don’t have an agreement of what it is exactly we can build.”

By law, a business such as Last Hill requires at least one amenity on their property such as a playground or a trail, and although there’s nothing in place at the moment, Maclean assured council there’s nothing to worry about.

“We’ve been nothing, but positive about the development there and trying to get something going in the Eckville area and I mean this course has been abandoned since 2009 and no one else has stepped forward to do anything.”

Council came up with the plan to move ahead with operations, letting the developers proceed with an amenity, after a couple years of being open, to better gage the sites need.

If everything goes according to plan, Maclean said construction will proceed in the fall.

Along with the new RV site, the development will include a driving range and a 12-hole golf course.
