The Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce held an awards night on Friday to commemorate the hard work locals have been doing.

They made a strong point about also recognizing several legacy members who have been involved for more than 50 years.

These members are Atco Gas, Lacombe Globe, Weidner Motors, ATB Financial, BDO Canada, Hannas Seeds, Wilson’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Bank of Montreal and Nowco Home Hardware.

Steve Schultz won citizen of the year award for his hard work with the students at Lacombe Composite.

"There is a traditional sense to the city of Lacombe, there is still that willingness to have adventure and to seek out real opportunity."

He has helped them create multiple environmental projects that have won other awards from all over the country.

"Through all these processes my students have had the privilege of winning many prestigious awards, we just won the greenest school in Canada which is a great honour to see their faces light up and know that they accomplished these seemingly impossible tasks."

His work is also appreciated with the robotics clubs and other projects around the school, and he says they have big plans for the year.

"Our next future project that we have been brainstorming for the last couple of months, my students want to build a living roof gazebo."
