Students at Lacombe Upper Elementary School are gearing up to ditch their regular schedule tomorrow (Nov 16th) to spend an entire day focusing on healthy eating, staying active and feeling good at school.

The whole school will participate in the 15th annual Healthy Living Fair.

Grade 6 student Adam Mousseau explains how the day works "it's just to focus on our health and wellness so staying active and we get health care professionals from the area and they lead different lessons.  Some times we will focus on nutrition, other times staying active, some of the things are bootcamp, hip hop dance or karate".

Grade 6 student Carlin O'Lane says they'll take part in 9 different sessions "there's a session that teaches us how to get better sleep, and also how to train your brain and event CPR from an EMT".

Assistant Principal Ian Wilson explains what students take away each year "by the end of the day kids are able to have just better ideas on how to stay active, they might even have a recipe that they will now make for their healthy lunches and we have some sessions where kids will say that's kind of an interesting profession, maybe that's something that I will look at later on".

To set the stage for the Healthy Living Fair tomorrow, students will hear from paralympic swimmer Tammy Cunnington this afternoon, who just recently returned from the Rio Games.

She'll be inspiring students with a theme of overcoming obstacles in order to maintain our health and wellness and realize our dreams.
