After months of waiting for the official word, the humongous five-of-diamonds lure that casts a shadow over the Len Thompson Pond here in Lacombe is now the World's Largest Fishing Lure, complete with its own Guinness World Record certificate.

The former Guinness World Record holder for Largest Fishing Lure was located in the city of West, Texas, and measured 15 feet, 6.72 inches.

Lacombe's lure comes in at a whopping 40 feet 5.25 inches. The spoon alone is 27.5 feet long by 9.5 feet wide, while the treble hook is 14 feet long and 8 feet wide.

Officially, the record is held by siblings Brad and Jessica (Pallister) Dew, who are the fourth-generation owners of the Thompson-Pallister Bait Company.

“This project was so special to our family, community and of course, our project partners,” said Jessica Dew. “Although we knew the lure dimensions easily beat out the old record, it took months for the application to be processed. We are very excited by the official approval.”
