The City of Lacombe was recognized by a national organization for its work in preserving and protecting the community's historical buildings.

The Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors wrote a letter congratulating the city on the wide range of buildings protected in Lacombe, from St. Andrew's United Church to the Young residence.

Executive Director of the Lacombe & District Historical Society, Marie Peron said a lot of work has gone into preserving the communities built heritage since the 1970's.

“Most recently what’s really exciting is that Lacombe finally has a Heritage Management Plan to both guide the preservation of heritage conservation in our community and also to provide grants to actually be able to preserve the built heritage in Lacombe.”

As a result, Peron explained that the city will most likely see more conservation happen this year.

“Individuals and private owners are now finally able to have tools and guidelines to do this type of work. We’re seeing a lot of momentum, there’s a number of applications that have been submitted that are being processed at the moment so we can look forward to more designations and more buildings being preserved in our community.”

Peron added in celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary, there will be programs coming out to document what life was like in Lacombe in 2017 for future generations.
