A Montessori Pre School is gearing up to open its doors in Lacombe this fall.

Village Montessori Academy is now accepting registrations, and will be holding a registration and information night this Thursday (Feb 9th) at the Lacombe Memorial Centre starting at 7 pm.

The Academy is founded and directed by Lacombe's Jaclyn Alexander, she explains her motivation behind wanting to offer a Montessori program “I am a teacher, certified teacher in Alberta, I have 7 years of experience in the classroom and having my own pre-school program has always been a long term goal for me, ever since I started teaching. As I now have my own little family and my young children at home I feel like now is the time that I want a program like this for them”.

Alexander explains the Montessori Method very simply as purposeful play “every activity and experience that a child has in a Montessori classroom is very specifically designed to teach a skill or a concept, but it also is hands on and playful. It’s interesting when people think about playschools and children playing, children are pretending, and they’re using pretend kitchens and pretend spoons and pots, in a Montessori classroom everything is real, and so instead of them pretending to do it, they are actually doing it”.

Village Montessori Academy will be offering morning and afternoon Tuesday/Thursday classes for 3-5 year olds, accepting registrations for 32 kids.
