On Thursday, March 14th the Lacombe foundation, Bethany group and HFKS architecture incorporated held a seniors’ community engagement session where information was shared about the current need for improved senior living in Lacombe County.

Helen Posti, Chairman for the Lacombe Foundation says that the meeting is another attempt at getting provincial funding for the current seniors’ lodges in Lacombe.

“We’ve already been to the province to get funding to see if we could replace the manor and that. So far, we’ve heard nothing. We know that they only have a certain amount of money and that they will only do so many. We’re hoping that if we put something together and go forward and we’re shovel-ready that we might have a better chance,” explained Posti.

With the aging baby boomer generation, seniors’ lodges and living accommodations need to expand and renovate for more people across Alberta and gaining that extra funding to do so can often take many years.

Currently, a survey is being conducted to more accurately assess the needs of seniors living in Lacombe County area to see what types of living options people are interested in.

“We’re just getting into the first steps of it and we just wanted to bring it out there, this is what we’re looking at and we got the survey, the questions, and all that. What are people looking for? What are they looking for in the future? What are they looking for in the next little while?” explained Paula Law, Lacombe County Reeve and Lacombe Foundation board member.

The survey will be open to the public until March 22nd, 2019 and everyone over the age of 40 are encouraged to participate. The survey is also open to those who live outside of the city of Lacombe and in other municipalities within the county of Lacombe.

In May, the results of the survey will be discussed and hopefully, a plan will be set in place.
