The Lacombe Food Bank got some help from the City and the Central Alberta Wood Workers Guild in providing a community garden to their back yard.

10 4x8 gardens have been added, and will help provide the food bank users a chance to grow their own food.

General Manager of the Lacombe Food Bank Millie Snow said she hopes clients will take full advantage of the gardens.

“I’m hoping that the people who come downstairs to the food bank will be willing to do a garden for themselves. That’s the plan.”

Sonya Beauclair of the City's ChooseWell program said she hopes it's beneficial to the users of the food bank.

“We know a lot of time the food bank doesn’t always get a lot of fresh produce so we thought this was a great way to help them get more fresh produce to people who need it.”

ChooseWell is an energizing, healthy eating and active living initiative supported by Alberta Health and Wellness and managed by the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association.

Before the garden is open to the public, the hope is to have the Garden Club come out and give a basic gardening session sometime next week.
