There are some fresh faces heading up the Lacombe Farmers' Market which will be returning to an old venue this season.

The city asked the market to re-locate to the arena parking lot while the new Best Western Hotel was under construction in Michener Park.

It was always planned as a temporary move, and new farmers' market President Kim Schermers says their vendors felt it was time to move back to their more visible location.

“Coming in on Highway 12 with the tents up, it’s a good location to have the market; lots of people can see it, especially those customers that maybe don’t know the market was at the arena downtown.  We also feel like it will be a more unified market by having only outdoor vendors so there won’t be a division of the vendors between indoor and outdoor”.

In terms of feedback from market goers to date, most have voiced concerns about returning to an all outdoor market, but Schermers says they are working to ensure it's still easy to travel through during inclement weather.

“We are working with the city to ensure that the parking lot and the area where the market will be held is gravelled so it’s not that muddy, we’re working with the city closely on that”.

Schermers is an owner of s4 greenhouses ltd  west of Lacombe, she's been a vendor at the market for the last 4 years and spent the last 3 years on the Board of Directors.

The Lacombe Farmers’ Market is also welcoming a new Market Manager, Pat O'Brien, who replaces Kit Glimm who held the role for the last 12 years.

The new market season launches May 18th, with the market running Fridays 9-1 through October the 4th.
