A local Lacombe family is trying to cook their way on to TV, which could eventually win them a trip to Italy.

The Gustafson family is one of 10 semi-finalists for the Marilyn Denis Show’s Little Chef Family Edition competition.

11 year Darcy and his 9 year old sister Sienna enjoyed cooking with their parents, and after their mother Natasha saw the contest online, she decided to enter.

After being selected as semi-finalists, they had 48 hours to shoot a two-minute long video and prepare dishes with little potatoes, as the Little Potato Company is the sponsor of the contest.

They made it past that stage, and are now in the running for the finals, explains Natasha.

“The voting closes on Sunday, and then we got interviews with the judging panel, and then after that it goes to the top two, and then the top two have to go to Toronto for a cook off on the Marilyn Denis show with Michael Bonacini, one of the judges from Master Chef Canada. That would be neat, because he’s a mentor.”

Darcy says he enjoys cooking a variety of things, from special Halloween themed cupcakes, to a traditional dish from his homeland.

“My favourite thing to make, because I’m English, Toad in the hole. Many people think that it’s toast, cut out the middle, and put an egg in the middle. It’s sausage and pastry, and it’s my favourite.”

You can vote for the Gustafson family once a day every day until Sunday (Nov 26th).

Finalists will be chosen in December and invited on to the show for a final cook off, with the winners going on a culinary trip to Tuscany, Italy.
