It's kick-off day today for Lacombe's annual summer festival, Lacombe Days. It's kick-off day today for Lacombe's annual summer festival, Lacombe Days.

Thanks to tremendous support from community sponsors and volunteers this year’s event listing is bigger and better than ever.

Chris Ross with the Lacombe Days Committee says you won't want to miss Saturday's parade, this year featuring a significant military presence.

“The 20th Field Regiment, 41st Signal Regiment, 1PPCLI (The 1st Battalion of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry), 3PPCLI (The 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry), even those that have served in Afghanistan, some that served directly with Corporal Byron Greff, so it’s an exciting presence of military personnel and equipment in the parade.”

You'll see the LAV III in the parade before a special ceremony at 3 pm will see it placed in the new Veteran's Field of Honour at the Fairview Cemetery.

The parade starts at 9:30 on Saturday, due to main street construction the route has been altered from years past.

There's a pancake breakfast every day of the 4 day festival.

You have an opportunity to eat well outside of the breakfasts too according to Ross who points to a Sunday event, Locavore.

“Some tastings of local food and beverage prepared by professional chefs, featuring 14 food and beverage booths, new location this year down at the Lacombe Federal Research Station at the south end of 58th Street, and we’re working in conjunction with Lacombe Research Station so there will be some tours as well”.

Locavore is a ticketed event, you can purchase tickets online.

Of course there’s no shortage of fun events to take in with the family, Ross highlights a few.

“Dr. Von Houligan’s Carnival of Calamities, stage magician, fire breathing, juggling, balancing, and several different performances on the Saturday.  Coming back will be the drive in movie located in the Lionel’s No Frill’s parking lot, the movie we will be featuring is ‘Suicide Squad’, can enjoy from the comfort of your vehicle listening through your FM band of your stereo in your vehicle, that will be in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters”.

Sunny 94 is proud to host a Lacombe Days kick off bbq today (July 27th) from 11am-1pm here at our studios on the south end of Highway 2A.
