Nice weather and good attendance numbers helped Lacombe Days 2017 be one of the best in recent memory.

Tours, art galleries, beer gardens, a car show, and the red eye softball tournament were some of the highlights from this this past few days, which began with the kick off BBQ right here at Sunny 94, where we served burgers to about 650 people.Chris Ross with the Lacombe Days Committee says if the BBQ's are any indication, numbers were great this year.

“Friday was the Fortis one which I’m hearing was approximately 900, Saturday was Soapy’s, which I heard again had 900, and the fire department on Saturday I think ran out of 3 or 400 burgers at noon, and the car shows numbers, as far as number of vehicles in attendance, they felt the numbers were up significantly.”

With so many events going on at once, it takes a lot of dedicated people, mostly volunteers, to put it all together, and make sure things go smoothly.

Ross says only he and 4 others make up the Lacombe Days Committee, and he says none of it would be possible without community partners who are passionate about what they do.

“How Locavore, and other things are successful, is there is other groups that take a passion of their activity, and take it upon themselves. We work with them with advertising, location, and so forth, to make that event successful. And that’s what makes Lacombe Days… the group or organization that chooses to put on an activity within Lacombe Days, for the community, that’s what makes Lacombe Days a success.”

Ross also says the inclusion of the LAVIII placement in the Field of Honour at the Fairview Cemetery on Saturday, certainly helped to boost the numbers.

A number of residents on social media who were not at the event, got a surprise when a F18 Hornet fighter jet flew over the cemetery at 3:00pm, in honor of the LAVIII placement.
