After deliberating a pair of funding requests from not for profit groups, Lacombe County has decided not provide them with the assistance they've asked for.

Lacombe Big Brothers Big Sisters requested a donation of $50,000 to help pay off the Bamford House, while STARS Air Ambulance asked for $20,000 to help fund their missions.

Lacombe County Reeve Paula Law says the reason they chose not to was because they've turned down other not for profits in the past.

"We understand the significance and benefit that STARS provides. But we looked at it that we'd be using taxpayer dollars for a charity, and there are other great, great charities out there."

Law says they debated the donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters for a while.

"That was a tough one, and again charitable organizations. Which one's do you pick and which one's do you leave. Do you choose to support some but not others, if you go down that road there will be others you have to say yes to. Once you start a precedent it's very difficult."

The County did approve a funding request for the upgrades being done to the Blackfalds Community Hall worth $250,000.
