Lacombe County Council has approved funding for recreational facilities in Lacombe and Sylvan Lake, but not before struggling to determine accurate usership numbers.

The Town of Sylvan Lake requested the county pay seven per cent of the NexSource Centre, but was unable to provide accurate usership numbers resulting in council only approving 2.8 per cent.

Reeve Paula Law said the county might have to make some changes in the future including coming up with a system to determine usership numbers and sitting down with municipalities to see what projects are coming up in the future.

“We like to know up front what’s coming towards us. We know our citizens use these facilities and we want to pay our share. It’s nice to know for funding and everything else,” Law said.

“I also think that the new MGA that’s coming through the ICF’s, that will be another way to discuss this and know what’s coming in the future.”

The City of Lacombe received just over $1.4 million dollars in funding to be put towards the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex, the LMC and the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre.
