The City of Lacombe Council is working to remove outdated policies during their February 22nd council meeting. Historical policies that were deemed as inoperative or obsolete have been removed.

The data integrity project for governance documents has been ongoing for four years. 1,024 bylaws were removed from 2017 to 2018 and 300 polices have been removed in 2020. Most recently, 306 policy eliminations have been made.

"One month ago, Council approved several policies in the second phase of this project," Mayor Grant Creasey said. "It is great to see that only one month later – we can see an additional 306 policies taken off our books. Every round of this project eliminates potential red tape and confusion. Council looks forward to continuing this process to make life easier for our citizens.”

The project was put forward to organize the City bylaws where many bylaws and policies were noted to be inoperative. Some policies and bylaws were simply not repealed or rescinded when amended or a new governing document was passed.

In total, there are three more phases of policy rescindment but they carry no direct costs as they are completed using existing municipal staff.
