The Lacombe Community Watch Association is looking for more volunteers for their Block Parent Program.

Block Parent Coordinator Audrey Brown says they need more adults in Lacombe to sign up, put the sign in their window, and potentially open their doors to children or seniors in need of help.

"There are 12 right now, and that's not enough for a city of this size. We're hoping to get at least one on every two or three blocks. So we're looking to get the word out and doing some recruiting right now. That's why we have the promotion going on until the end of this month. We're trying to get more interest into the Block Parent program."

Spring is right around the corner, which means more children will be out and about enjoying the weather.

So the Lacombe Community Watch is hoping adults will sign up to be block parents to potentially help children who are lost, feel unsafe, or in medical distress.

Or seniors who need help.

Brown says it's the easiest volunteer position available in the city.

"It's the only volunteer position where you can literally be sitting on your coach and be making an impact. We ask that you just volunteer as much time as you are available. So if you're away for the weekend, your sign doesn't go up. If you're home for 2 hours a week and you're available that time for someone to come to your home in an emergency situation, that's all we ask for you."

If you sign up and qualify to be a Block Parent before March 31st you'll be entered in to win a $50 gift certificate to Jump 360 in Red Deer.
