With several boys on a waitlist for mentors in Lacombe and Blackfalds, Lacombe and District Big Brothers Big Sisters is hoping to recruit more mentors in this National Mentor Month.

Executive Director Crystal Zens says there are a few ways to get involved and a small commitment makes a big impact.

“The personal connection, the one to one connection with a child and just doing activities is really a small time to give, one hour a week is all we request.  We have in school mentoring that runs throughout the school year and the summer off or we have community based mentoring which is year round.  A little bit of time gives a whole lot to a child”.

Zens says they've been using this month to using the month to gain exposure for their programs

“We are trying to feature many of our matches through our social media and highlight and run a program called ‘meet the match’ and just really make our programs more visible this month”.
