The Klaglahachie Fine Arts Society is a non-profit community theatre group that has been putting on plays and entertaining Central Alberta since 2007.

There current performance is a version of a classic children's story about a royal sleeping spot.

Treasure of Klaglahachie Fine Arts Society Marion Raugust explains.

“It’s called Once Upon a Mattress, it is an adaptation of The Princess and the Pea. It’s a musical comedy, and it’s quite funny, lots of humor in the play.”

Raugust has been there since day one, and she says community spirit is key to their success.

“It’s all run by volunteers and a board of directors who head it up, and then we have lots of volunteers within the community come out to help with costuming and sets and props. We also run a summer drama camp, we’ve had dance workshops, and sometimes we’ll do a spring play as well as the one in the fall, so it’s fairly busy for most of the year.”

Along with making their own costumes, they also rent and borrow stuff from Red Deer College and the Bashaw Theatre.

The show takes place at the Ponoka United Church, and has evening and matinees performances from now until December 10th.
